Lady Gaga Named AP Entertainer of the Year
The Associated Press named the Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga, the Entertainer of the Year Monday. Not a choice you’re going to find THG arguing with.
Edging the late Apple founder Steve Jobs by just three votes, the 25-year-old Gaga won the annual honor, voted on by 135 AP editors and broadcasters.
The award is based on who had the most influence on entertainment and culture in 2011, and from that standpoint, Jobs and Lady Gaga were neck and neck.
The singer has touched on a number of facets in the past year, from a hit album in Born This Way to a record 17 million Twitter followers to her tireless social work.
Shestepped up her anti-bullying efforts following the suicide of her fan Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old from Buffalo, New York, who killed himself in September.
Earlier this month, Gaga met with officials at The White House to discuss the hot topic, and she also founded the Born This Way Foundation to promote the cause.
Jobs’ impact on pop culture and society at large was enormous every year, but garnered an even greater amoung of attention after his untimely death in October.
He was Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of 2011. R.I.P. Steve.
